six years ago, claremont 56 boss paul ‘mudd’ murphy tried to track down via his dj network, former freeez band-members john rocca and andy stennett to license pink rhythm’s “melodies of love”, for one of the originals compilations. they didn’t show up on the radar.
earlier this year, however, out of the blue, stennett got in touch with murphy. for much of the last two decades, he’d been living on a remote island off orkney, but was now pursuing music again.

one of the best mid-tempo disco raritys (and we mean rare) to come out the deepfunk scene. when keb darge first played party & get on down in the early 2000s in soho it put a few noses out of joint as it was such a departure from the deepfunk driving take no prisoner sound. true to kebs scottish stubbornness and like any real dj he stuck to his guns and created a dance floor favourite. athens of the north bring bab to 12inch for the first time, not only that but its a nice wee extended cut transferred direct from the master tapes. no brainier if you got class.

the record opens up with the poisonous title-track “two scorpios”, where sharp analogue leads lean on a relentless disco-funk groove, thrusting us out straight against the sweaty walls of the chicago’s muzic box. the airy and enchanting spirals of “solenoid” create a detachment for a sonic trip through circling arpeggios and sparkles. on the flip side, we reconnect abyssy to the “young soulomon” of early 90’s by a warm and robotics dusty house. the mood turns definitely more freaky with “slomo kid”: sampling divertissement with a punkish flavour and emphatic rhythmics, it is the perfect tune to shake down the whole ball of wax.

advanced deep driving techno from amsterdam! jp enfant s let recordings continues to slowly but surely build a fine reputation, and in fact his last ep on the label featured a track, sirens , which got used to great effect by daniel avery on his acclaimed dj kicks mix. now a fourth interesting ep on let recordings comes from shoal, who makes his first out on vinyl after a digital release on planet rhythm in october. utrecht based shoal aims to balance his techno sounds somewhere between rhythmic hypnosis and detailed soundscaping. he urges listeners to twitch out of their comfort zone and to really engage with his music. that is made all the more easy given that it is such inventive stuff. a powerful ep from this emerging new artist.

reaching our 100th release seems surreal. i started it with 50 bucks and a defiant attitude to release music i felt wasn’t repped elsewhere. the label has grown into a renegade family, and worldwide techno brand. proud of every single achievement and mistake we have made, we felt it fitting to gather a selection of our favorite artists and showcase our vision on the current state of classic modern techno. here s to another 10000. octopus for life.

college - old tapes celebrates ten years of composition from 2006 and 2016. most of these tracks are unreleased demo versions. to illustrate the music video of the track -auto pilot-, college team up with the director dan bell. this collaboration, born out of the same generational anchoring, reflects the strange dream of a paradise of the consumption which collapses silently.
